Artery grafting

Epworth HealthCare, together with the Eastern Melbourne PHN, held a Category 1 diabetes and vascular GP symposium at Epworth Eastern on Saturday 30 April. The event was very well received by the attendees, with excellent feedback being given to the GP Liaison Unit.

The topic of the first plenary session was renal complications of diabetes with speaker Dr Vatsa Dave, Nephrologist. The second plenary session covered causes, prevention and treatment of stroke with a focus on the importance of rapid treatment for TIA to ensure the best possible outcome with Dr Amanda Gilligan, Neurologist, Dr Jay Hocking, Haematologist and Dr Lachlan Maddock, Vascular Surgeon.

The afternoon sessions comprised of rotating workshops on veins and arteries with Dr Iman Bayat, Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Dr Domenic Robinson, Vascular Surgeon and Mr Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeon addressing PVD, venous disease and aneurysms respectively.

The second set of workshops covered vascular complications with regards to erectile dysfunction by Mr Justin Chee and diabetes and the heart by Dr Monique Watts.

Attendees thought the topics were entirely relevant to their practice, said the group sizes, especially for the workshops were just right and felt that the case based sessions were engaging.
