The right conditions for the best sleep

Dr Darren Mansfield from Epworth’s Sleep Centre, spoke recently with Richard Stubbs and ABC 774 listeners across Victoria about the right conditions for the best sleep. These include the right temperature (18 degrees), reduced lighting (preferably none) and the knowledge of how your diet affects you.

He says that teenagers need nine hours sleep a night and adults would do well with seven plus. His experience shows that people can train themselves to have a good night’s sleep on a regular basis but need to understand that health issues such as obesity and alcohol consumption can affect breathing during sleep.
