It is with deep sadness that Epworth Eastern confirmed the death of cardiothoracic surgeon, Mr Patrick Pritzwald-Stegmann, at The Alfred.
As widely reported earlier in June, Patrick, who was 41, suffered critical injuries during an incident with a member of the public at Box Hill Hospital on 30 May.
Executive Director Ms Lou O’Connor said that Patrick was a highly-respected surgeon at Epworth Eastern, where he had many patients.
“Patrick was a wonderful surgeon, a generous work colleague and a friend to many of the staff here. We will deeply miss his care, his inclusiveness and the warmth that he radiated on his ward rounds. We are all very sad. He will be remembered as a kind and decent man whose life was cut short tragically, leaving a young family without a father and the world without a wonderful example of a dedicated and caring doctor.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Patrick’s family and his team who worked with him at Epworth.
“We send sincere sympathy to our friends and colleagues at Eastern Health and thank The Alfred for the care they provided to Patrick over these last weeks,” Ms O’Connor said.
Patrick previously participated in the Epworth GP Liaison CPD program and we appreciate his contribution to GP education.
