Memory skills group

Memory skills group

The Epworth memory skills group provides education and training to improve memory and help people manage their memory difficulties. The program is designed for people who have experienced a change in their memory as a result of a neurological condition or from an injury such as head injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and brain tumours. The program provides an excellent opportunity for patients to learn from each other’s experiences and approach memory in a different way.

The program runs for six weeks (two hours a week) for up to eight patients at a time. Participants are seen by a:

  • rehabilitation consultant
  • neuropsychologist
  • occupational therapist
  • speech pathologist
  • dietitian.

Research has demonstrated the memory skills group results in improvements on memory tests as well as participants reporting less memory lapses, greater independence and quality of life following the program.

The program involves education, and the ability to learn and practice compensatory memory strategies for different situations. The group also enables patients to share their experiences with others and learn from each other.

Participants may attend at Epworth Richmond, Epworth Camberwell or Epworth Brighton. They can be funded through private health hospital insurance with minimal to no out of pocket expense.
Patients do not require extras cover to access our programs.
